Use Optimization of Organic Wastes in Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation against Strawberry Charcoal Rot Root

چکیده

The imminent removal of agrochemicals in Europe is directly affecting the strawberry sector Spain, specifically Huelva province. currently main producer country. lack efficient fumigants has led to rise soilborne diseases. Macrophomina phaseolina (the causal agent charcoal rot strawberries) generating serious problems with farmers. This work proposes optimize process anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) against M. crops as a more sustainable alternative than chemical fumigation. Two trials different inoculum doses were conducted, amending rice bran and residual extrudate carbon source for ASD evaluate propagule reduction. After ASD, these soils used crop strawberries growth chamber under controlled conditions assay disease Strawberry favored reduction over control, equaling efficacy Metam Sodium or even improving it some cases. Trichoderma spp. microbial activity could influence suppressive effect ASD. All amended treatments reduced propagules severity. Rice are suitable amendments be pathogen. resulting at 16.89 t/ha 25 days was similar most effective treatment (20 40 days) based on foliar Additionally, both equivalent treatment.

Perspectives of Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation

Biological soil disinfestation is an environmentally friendly method to disinfest soil. From now on we refer to it as anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD). With ASD a green manure crop (40 t/ha) is homogeneously incorporated into the topsoil (0-30 cm) after which the field is lightly compacted and irrigated. Subsequently the field is mechanically covered with air tight virtually impermeable film...

Unravelling the mechanism of pathogen inactivation during anaerobic soil disinfestation

Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation (ASD) for the control of multiple soilborne pathogens is a viable alternative to the application of biocides and soil steaming. ASD implies soil wetting, incorporation of fresh organic matter, and covering with airtight plastic foil for several weeks. To speed up the whole process, Thatchtec has developed a procedure based on defined agricultural products (referred...

Anaerobic co-digestion of organic wastes

Over the last years anaerobic digestion has been successfully established as technology to treat organic wastes. The perspective of turning, through a low-cost process, organic wastes into biogas, a source of renewable energy and profit, has certainly increased the interest around this technology and has required several studies aimed to develop methods that could improve the performance as wel...

Charcoal Rot of Sorghum

Charcoal rot of sorghum causedby the fungus ~acrophorfdna phaseolina is a root andstalk rot disease of great destructive potential in most sorghum-growing regions. Improved, highyielding cultivars under good management tend to be very susceptible to the disease. M. phaseolina is a common soilborne, nonaggressive, and plurivorous pathogen that attacks plants whose vigor has been reduced by unfav...

Organic Management of Raspberry Root Rot

PROCEDURES: We conducted two studies to investigate an integrated program for root rot (Phytopthora fragriae var. rubi) control in raspberries that would be useful to organic and conventional growers. These two studies have been carried out on our commercial field of ‘Meeker’ that was established in 1997 on raised beds with drip irrigation. Soil at this site is naturally infested with the root ...
